Sustainability Day 17- Fun with CDs!

February 23, 2017 By Kirsty Fantini Leave a Comment

Are you like me and have huge piles of CDs that you no longer use… you now download your music onto your iPad or phone… and the CD player now sits and gathers dust???

Well rather than throw out those old CDs and add to landfill, maybe think of ways we can re-use these! Here are some ideas;

Use CDs and crystals, glass beads, collage to create “sun catchers”

CDs can be used as effective decorative signage – room names, titles for birthday charts, children’s names and photos etc.

Design and decorate and hang as part of display, visual for infants or near a window to display an array of colours and patterns

Great use with your construction  and creative arts areas

CDs make great backings for wall pockets… could be useful for staff notes or in preschooler creative arts areas to hold scissors, glue sticks, markers etc.

Create textured place mats for home corner or sensory mats to explore various textures

Break the CDs up and use as mosaic.. what a great way to bring an old table back to life! Obviously be careful with any sharp edges!

CD weaving… wrap wool around the CD first and then weave …

There are so many uses for those old, scratched CDs…. whether they are a standard resource in your creative arts/ construction space or you use these to create with!

Please feel free to share your ideas and how you have re-used CDs!
