Sustainability Day 3- Rock Appreciation!

February 7, 2017 By Kirsty Fantini Leave a Comment

I love rocks… I love their many colours, their textures and formations. They can be used for so many purposes – to climb, to create spaces and borders, to create paint, to design and to touch!

By creating wonder, curiosity and appreciation in rocks this will in turn nurture children’s (and educator’s) love for nature….  The possibilities are endless….and easy to implement!!  Here are a few of my favourites….

Rocks of various shapes & sizes for designing and planning…

Rocks used as “food” in mud kitchens (obviously for older children)

Rocks used as props for naughts & crosses… this time “bees & beetles”

Rocks used in the sand supporting creativity, planning, design & collaboration

Rocks used to explore formation… the tones of white and gray make this a relaxing experience for children (and educators)

Rocks used to explore Aboriginal Story symbols…

Rocks used to create an outdoor  dramatic play area…

Feel free to share in the comments how you may be using rocks…
